1984年4月発売のアルバム『VARIETY』に収録された竹内まりやの曲です。作詞・作曲は竹内本人、アレンジとプロデュースは山下達郎で、山下はギターも弾いています。ベースは伊藤広規、ドラムは青山純、エレクトリック・ピアノは中西康晴。

跳ねるベースとギターのカッティングの上で、都会で自由に恋をする女性の物語が歌われます。2010年代後半に海外で再評価が進み、2019年にはその人気を受けてプロモーション・ビデオが新たに制作されました。

About this song

From Mariya Takeuchi's 1984 album VARIETY. Takeuchi wrote the words and music; Tatsuro Yamashita arranged and produced it and plays guitar, with Koki Ito on bass, Jun Aoyama on drums and Yasuharu Nakanishi on electric piano.

The groove rests on a bouncing bass line and clipped guitar, and the lyric is a deliberately fictional portrait of a young woman living and loving freely in the city. The song found a large audience overseas in the late 2010s, and in 2019, thirty-five years after release, an official music video was made in response.

初出はアルバム『VARIETY』（1984年4月25日）。1985年3月25日に12インチ・シングル、2021年11月3日に12インチが完全生産限定で再発。
First issued on the album VARIETY (25 April 1984). A 12-inch single followed on 25 March 1985, and a limited 12-inch reissue on 3 November 2021.
